What is a plastic granulator?

Plastic granulator is a specialized equipment that processes waste plastics or raw plastic materials into standard granular recycled materials through processes such as heating, melting, extrusion molding, cooling, and cutting. It is the core equipment in plastic recycling and modification processing.

It is widely used in the recycling treatment of various thermoplastic plastics such as PE (polyethylene), PP (polypropylene), PVC (polyvinyl chloride), PET (polyester), ABS, etc. It can convert waste films, woven bags, plastic bottles, engineering plastic scraps, etc. into uniform particles that can be reused in injection molding, blown film, extrusion and other molding processes, achieving "turning waste into treasure" and resource recycling.

1、 Core workflow (from waste to granules)

Feed: The crushed and cleaned plastic fragments enter the main machine through the hopper.

Heating plasticization: Under the action of screw pushing and external heating, the plastic gradually heats up, undergoes a transition from glassy state to high elastic state to viscous flow state, and finally melts.

Mixing homogenization: The screw shears, compresses, and stirs the melt to improve plasticization uniformity.

Filtration and purification: The melt is filtered through a porous filter to remove impurities, and water and volatile substances are discharged through a vacuum exhaust port.

Extrusion molding: Molten plastic is extruded into strips (pull strips) or filaments (die surface hot cutting) through a die.

Cooling and shaping: The strip material is solidified by water or air cooling.

Granulation molding: The high-speed rotating cutter cuts the cooled material strip into standard cylindrical particles of about 3 × 3mm.

Dehydration packaging: The particles are transported to the storage bin after centrifugal dehydration and air drying.

2、 Type and Applicable Scenarios

Single screw granulator: With a simple structure and low cost, it is suitable for the recycling of general plastics such as PP and PE.

Double/triple screw granulator: Strong mixing ability, suitable for high filling, modified or engineering plastics (such as PC, ABS).

Underwater granulator: fast cooling, round particles, suitable for high transparency, food grade recycled material production.
