What is a double Z type blade sigma mixer?

The double Z-shaped blade Sigma mixer (also known as the Sigma kneader or double-arm kneader) is a high-efficiency mixing device specifically designed for high-viscosity materials (>500,000 cps). It achieves powerful kneading through differential shear of Z-shaped blades and is widely used in the chemical, rubber and plastics, food, and pharmaceutical industries.

1. Core structure and working principle

The core of this equipment lies in its two counter-rotating Z-shaped paddles, installed in a W-shaped or semi-cylindrical mixing chamber, which rotate in opposite directions at different speeds (typically 1.9:1). During rotation, the material is continuously stretched, folded, sheared, and squeezed, resulting in efficient dispersion and mixing effects.

Gap between the paddle and the cylinder: Control it to be 2~4mm to ensure that the paddle can sweep all areas of the inner wall of the cylinder, avoiding dead zones;

Differential mixing system: facilitates rapid exchange of materials between the inner and outer layers, enhancing mixing uniformity;

Jacket temperature control design: Supports steam, heat transfer oil, or water circulation for heating/cooling, adapting to high or low temperature process requirements.

Secondly, the double Z-shaped blade Sigma mixer is mainly divided into ordinary type, vacuum type, pressure type, high temperature type, and laboratory type. Different models exhibit significant differences in functional configurations and applicable scenarios.

The key variation of the hydraulic cylinder tilting and dumping type, classified by discharge method, utilizes a hydraulic system to tilt the entire cylinder, enabling large-opening discharge. It is suitable for viscous paste or conditions where batch replacement is frequent.

The bottom screw extrusion type (such as PSGX) is equipped with a single or double screw discharge device, enabling continuous production and commonly used in hot melt adhesive and butyl rubber production lines.

The ball valve/butterfly valve with a lower discharge type is suitable for applications where high cleanliness is required and the material should not be exposed, such as the processing of food-grade gum base or pharmaceutical intermediates.

Heating method combination:

Jacket temperature control: supports electric heating, steam heating, and heat transfer oil circulation

Internal blade heating channel: Enhance heat transfer efficiency and reduce heating time

III. Typical Application Scenario: Chemical Industry. Used for mixing and defoaming of silicone rubber, ink, sealant, and hot melt adhesive, ensuring bubble-free and highly consistent finished products.

Food and Pharmaceutical: Capable of processing hygienic materials such as paste-like seasonings and medicinal ointments, with contact parts mostly made of SS304/316L stainless steel.

Special materials are applied to high-temperature and high-pressure reaction processing of high-value-added materials such as carbon, flame retardants, and lithium battery slurry.

The auxiliary process of plastic recycling is utilized in the production of beauty sealants and reclaimed rubber for homogenizing high-viscosity rubber compounds, thereby enhancing the stability of the slurry prior to granulation.
